DENNIS VARGAS began his career with New York City at the Human Resources Administration (HRA) in 2007. Nine years later, in 2016, he transferred to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) where he still works today as a Principal Administrative Associate III.

Dennis believes that advocating for the underprivileged is his duty and works tirelessly to assist all Local 1180 members, even those not in DEP.

His co-workers recognized his dedication and determination, and elected him as their Shop Steward in 2018. Since that time, he has been protecting members and their rights, as well as advocating for the Union and labor in general.

Dennis is a member of the Quality of Work Life Employee Recognition Committee, the Local 1180 Men’s Committee, and Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA).

He is a proud recipient of the Boy Scout’s Distinguished Eagle Scout Award that recognizes those who achieve extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or eminence within their profession and who have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. Dennis also was honored with the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Customer Service at HRA.

Dennis attended the College of New Rochelle, working toward his degree in Public Administration.
